January Newsletter

Laragh 2 Muff N.S. Newsletter January 2019

Sacramental Classes:   Our 2nd and 6th classes have the following Preparation Masses before the dates of Communion and Confirmation:

6th March:     Ash Wednesday in Kingscourt

9th March:    Saturday Vigil Mass in Muff

30th March:  Saturday Vigil Mass. in Muff

6th April:      Saturday Vigil Mass in Muff

Staffing:   We welcome back Ms. Farrelly to 1st and 2nd class. Ms. Marron will be teaching our infants class for the remainder of the year.

Enrolment Week:   Next week, January 14th – 18th, is our Enrolment Week for new pupils starting in September 2019. All parents who are interested can pick up an enrolment form from the office or download a form from www.laraghmuffns.com. All forms should be returned to the office before 5:00 on Friday the 18th of January.

Fundraising/Building:   Construction of our new classroom will begin in March and should be completed well in advance of classes returning in September. The new room will be situated at the front of the school on a portion of the current school yard. As a result we were would like to extend the school yard onto a section of the grass pitch so that pupils could use it all year round. However, we have not secured enough money from the Department to complete this part of the project. Therefore we are looking to take on a fundraising drive over the next 12 months to try and raise enough finance to provide our pupils with what we feel is this essential playing space. We are acutely aware of financial pressures that many families face. However we haven’t had any major fundraisers in many years and we feel that it is a worthy project to undertake.

Over the next number of weeks we will be inviting the Parents Association, the Board, staff members and the school community to come together to come up with possible ways forward. All ideas and help are welcome.

Green Flag:   Our Action Day will take place on Wednesday the 16th of January. Ms. McNally and the staff will be organising events for the pupils on the day. This is the latest event in our search for the 3rd Green Flag related to water conservation.

School Self Evaluation:  We will be implementing our SSE plan on spelling over the coming months. The plan is available on our school website.

Sport:   Well done to our pupils who participated in the recent Swimming County Championships in Cavan: Sophie & Daithí Yore; Harry Reilly; Liam Smith; Senan McCormack; Sineád Carolan; Philip and Emma Tierney; Nathan Reilly; Niall Gogarty and Luke Madden.

Congratulations to Liam and Sophie who were medal winners.  A special word of thanks to the parents who accompanied the children and supported them on the day.
