October Newsletter 2018

Laragh 2 Muff NS Newsletter October 2018

Communion/Confirmation:   The first Preparation Mass takes place on Saturday evening at 7:30 in Muff Church. Below are the dates for other Masses over the coming months are:

November 10th at 7:30pm – Remembrance Mass

December 8th at 7.30pm – Christmas Giving.

Literacy Lift Off:   Our reading initiative Literacy Lift Off is underway in 1st class for the next number of weeks. This program has been of great benefit to pupils in our school over the last number of years. It has led to improvements in the pupils’ reading attainment. We are grateful for the support provided by parents at home with reading.

School Building:   The building project is now at the tender stage and we hope to have progression with it in the near future.

Parents Association:   At the recent AGM the following committee was elected:

Chairperson – Liz Martin; Treasurer – Ann Tully; Secretary – Naomi Tully; Assistant Chair – Louise Cooney; Assistant Treasurer – Joe McCabe; Assistant Secretary – Angela Reilly.

The PA plays a hugely important role in the school. They organise fundraising for badly needed funds that all students benefit from. They also meet me regularly to discuss issues that are of pertinence to the parent body. Over the last twelve months this would have included meetings relating to Child Protection and Data Protection. All parents are automatically members of the Association. The committee and the school would greatly appreciate if you could offer your support and help out the new committee in any way you can over the next twelve months, whether it be at events or attending meetings.

The first fundraiser is a Cash for Clothes Collection. Please see the note attached for further details.

HSE Vision and Hearing Tests:   Junior Infants will have their HSE tests done this Tuesday during school time.

Maths Week:   Our annual Maths Week takes place next week. We focus on the importance of mental maths and problem solving with a number of activities based around these concepts.

Sport:   Our football season is in full swing with the boys having played their first match. Our girls are now training with Ms. Quinn on a Tuesday. Brendan is training the 4th/5th class at the moment as well.

There will be Tag Rugby for classes from 3rd – 6th this Friday.

There will be Cross Country Trials this Wednesday in the school at lunchtime to pick a team for the County Cross Championships next week.

GOAL Jersey Day:   The annual charity fundraiser will take place on Friday. Students can wear their school tracksuit and a sports jersey/t-shirt of their choice. They can make a €2 donation on the morning.

Green Schools: We hope our water saving tips have been helpful to you at home.  In school, we will reduce our water usage by installing hippo bags into the toilet cisterns, and will collect rainwater using a water butt.  Our “Leaky Peakers” are on the look-out every day for any dripping taps around the school.
