Following in the Footsteps of Friends
On Friday, 19th June, our 6th Class students participated in a three-hour workshop, Following in the Footsteps of Friends. Founded by Joanne Barry, the programme has been supported by the Muff National School Parents' Association over the past three years and, this year, was delivered by Joanne and her team through Well-Ora Counselling, Mediation & Holistic Wellness.
The programme brought together our 6th Class students and returning First-Year students, (6th class 2025) for a morning of peer learning, discussion, fun and teamwork.
Students explored emotions, anxiety, coping strategies, emotional regulation and recognising that many of the worries they may have about secondary school are shared by others. Through a range of individual activities, cognitive challenges and team-building games, students developed communication, teamwork, leadership and problem-solving skills while enjoying plenty of fun and laughter along the way.
Returning First-Year students shared their experiences of secondary school and answered questions on topics such as timetables, tutor class, lockers, homework, subjects, making friends and settling into school life.
Thank you to the returning First-Year students who gave their time to support and encourage the 6th class students beginning their secondary school journey. A special thank you to the Parents Association for the treats provided to the children on the morning.
