December Newsletter

Laragh 2 Muff N.S. Newsletter December 2018

Sacramental Classes:   This Saturday evening is the Annual Giving Mass. Communion and Confirmation students are asked to attend. All pupils can bring in non-perishable goods to be donated on the evening. We will accept goods in the school from Thursday. Below is a list of the remaining Preparation Masses for the year:

6th March:     Ash Wednesday in Kingscourt

9th March:    Saturday Vigil Mass in Muff

30th March:  Saturday Vigil Mass. in Muff

6th April:      Saturday Vigil Mass in Muff

Board of Management:   The next meeting for the Board will be this Tuesday the 4th of December. The reports from these Board meetings are available on the school website

Parent Association: Many thanks to all those who supported the recent cake sale and raffle and who purchased pupils Christmas cards. Thank you also to the committee for organising these events.

Building/Parking:   We are hoping to commence building our new classroom in the very near future. We are awaiting the final go-ahead from the Department. We are also actively seeking funding from the Department with regard to extending the school car parking facilities. We would like to commend the vast majority of parents who adhere to the car park guidelines we set out. We would remind parents, guardians and whomever picks up/drops off students to drive with extreme caution around the school environs. No car should be parked opposite the school or where the cones lie on the road. Pupils should be walked to the school gate and must be picked up at the gate at 2:00/3:00.  Thank you for your continuing cooperation in this matter.

Parent/Teacher Meetings:   Many thanks to all those parents who attended our P/T meetings last month. It provides a valuable opportunity for parent and teacher to discuss the pupils’ progression. If there is any issue with regard to your child that you wish to discuss with the class teacher, please contact them through a written note or via Gillian in the office.

Green Flag:   Ms. McNally is continuing to work hard with our Green School Committee on our next flag based on the theme of water. This month some classes got to visit the new water treatment plant in Kingscourt and we had visitors from Irish Water giving talks on water conservation. Our flag assessment will be in the New Year.

Debating: Congratulations to Ms. Quinn and her class who participated in their first inter-school debate in November. It was a tremendous experience and they learned a lot from the day.

Sport:   Well done to the boys’ football team on reaching the semi-final of Cumann na mBunscol this year. Our 3rd and 4th class boys also won all their matches at the recent Futsal Blitz while our 6th class won all their matches at the Cavan Tag Rugby Blitz. Our 5th class won two out of their three matches.

Our swimming squad is off to Cavan this Wednesday to participate in the County Swimming Gala. We wish them well.

Drama:   The pupils thoroughly enjoyed their Christmas Drama in Navan last week. As the school hall is in use as a classroom, it will not be possible to have plays in the school this year.
