November Newsletter

Laragh 2 Muff N.S. Newsletter November 2019

Sacramental Classes:   The next Preparation Mass will take place on Saturday November 16th at 7:30pm in Muff Church. There is also a Mass on Saturday December 7th in Muff Church at 7.30pm.

Parent/Teacher Meetings:   These take place on Wednesday the 13th and 20th of November. Families will receive their time and date from the school this week. We would ask that you make every effort to keep to the time and date given. If there is an issue, please let us know as soon as possible.

Board of Management:   The current term of the Board of Management will be completed on the 30th of November. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the outgoing members for their fantastic service to the school – J.P. Canavan and Áine Gogarty for the last four years, Kevin Shiels as community nominee for the last eight years and Philip Farrelly whose service to the school stretches back many years. Their efforts are hugely appreciated. The future Board members will be confirmed in the coming weeks and have their first meeting in early December.

School Parking:   We would like to remind everyone that cars should not park at the cones in the morning or afternoon. Neither should cars drop off or pick up at the school gate. Pupils should be picked up by adults at the school gate at 3:00. We would like to thank the vast majority of parents who adhere to this. The most important aspect is that all motorists exercise extreme caution while moving and parking around the school environs.

School Uniform:   We would ask all parents to ensure that children’s names are clearly labelled on their uniforms. We already have a number of brand new items in the lost and found. Also we would remind families that the school uniform policy requires grey trousers. The P.E. tracksuit requires plain navy tracksuit bottoms. Leggings or bottoms of different colour or bottoms with logos or stripes are not allowed.

Also pupils should not wear earrings that dangle from the ear and can potentially be pulled at. We thank you for your continued cooperation in this matter.

School Play Area:   The play area is continuing to progress. We hope to have all in place in the not too distant future. We also would remind the whole community that there should be no children on the premises outside of school/after school care times. Due to a number of incidents of anti–social behaviour the Board of Management has installed CCTV on the premises to deter future incidents.

Standardised Tests:   Our annual tests take place the last two weeks of May and the first week of June.

Parents Association:   The PA are holding a Cash for Clothes on Tuesday November 12th. Bags can be left in the school hall on the Friday and Monday evening before from 2.30 -3.30pm, and 1st thing on Tuesday morning.

Debating Team:   A huge congratulations to Ms. Quinn and the 6th/5th class for their victory in the recent debating competition against a very strong Corlurgan team. The team were led by Reece O’ Reilly, Mairéad McCaul and Niall Gogarty although the whole class were involved in preparations for the week. Judges commented on their ability to think on their feet and confidence in speaking out. Well done to all concerned.

Credit Union Art Competition:   Very well done to Harry Reilly, Alana Gogarty and Kevin Tierney for winning prizes in the recent art competition.

Sport:   Our boys football team recently finished their league campaign with two wins and two losses. There are Futsal and tag rugby competitions taking place this month.

Our cross country team had a wonderful day at the recent county races. Our Senior Boys Team won a bronze medal in their race.

Our senior class will be doing a 6 week programme in “cycling safety”.  The cost of the course is supported by the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport, the Road Safety Authority and Cycling Ireland.

Swimming for classes from 1st to 6th will take place in Kells next term.
