Newsletter June 2020

Dear Parent/Guardian,

This has been a school year that we will all remember. I would like to pay tribute to the whole school community for all their incredible work in the last few months in what have been very challenging and difficult circumstances – teachers, staff, parents, Board of Management and of course the pupils. We as yet don’t know what the situation will be exactly in September but we all sincerely hope that we will be back to some sort of normality by that stage. As soon as we know more, we will let you all know.

Book Returns:   A huge thank you to all the families who have returned school rental books. We will be doing an inventory of those books early this week and may be in touch with you with regard to some outstanding items.

School Reports/Booklists:   We posted out all the school reports on Friday. If you don’t get your one by the middle of this week, please contact the school to let us know. We also have attached your child’s booklist for the coming year. Please note the €25 charge for book rental. We would ask those who can to pay online before the end of June. Otherwise, you can pay in September.

Classes for Next Year:   The staff have reviewed the school policy on class splits and have decided to stay with doing it by age. This will be kept under close review. Below is the class make up for next year. Please note that the teacher assigned to each class is provisional and may be subject to change. Junior Infants: To be confirmed. Senior Infants/1st: Ms McNally. 2nd: Ms Campbell. 3rd: Ms. Swinburne. 4th/ 9 pupils of 5th: Ms. Quinn. Rest of 5th/6th: Mr Byrne.

I would like to take this opportunity to wish Ms Marron well as she is moving on. She was a valuable part of our staff and we wish her every success in the future.

Sacramental Classes:   6th Class Graduation takes place on Thursday the 2nd of July at 7:00 in Kingscourt Church. First Holy Communion takes place on Saturday the 22nd of August at 11:00 in Kingscourt Church. There is no date yet for Confirmation. As soon as we hear of one we will let you know.

School Calendar:

School opening Tuesday September 1st.

Halloween Break: October 26th-30th

Christmas Holidays: School closing Tuesday 22nd December reopening Wednesday January 6th

February Midterm: Thursday 18th and Friday 19th.

St Patricks Day: Wednesday March 17th

May Bank Holiday: School closed Friday April 30th and Monday May 3rd

We have not left any formal work for this week but I would encourage you to continue to do reading with your child over the summer. This is something we often state but this holiday we believe it is more important than ever to both listen and read to your child. We have left a fun activity for you to try out if you so wish.

Finally, we would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a safe and happy summer holiday and we hope that we will see you all on the 1st of September.

Work for Mr Byrne’s Class

Information and work for week June 15th-19th

Dear Parent/Guardian,

I hope that all of you are keeping well. We are anxious to get the school rental books back before the end of the year. This Wednesday the 17th of June we will be asking parents to return the books to the school. We have made up a list of books that each pupil should have from each class. We would ask that individual pupil’s books are put into bags and dropped to the school with their name clearly labelled on the bag.  A time is allocated for each class below and again you can drop all your children’s bags at the same time. If you are missing any books, please let us know when you drop off.  We would also ask you to search at home for any school library books which your child may have had. If you have any queries, please let us know.

This week we are giving work for the early part of the week only that is based on the books. From Wednesday, we will only be giving general activities. We have organised science and nature work for the latter part of the week.

Pupils will be receiving their end of year reports and book lists for next year early next week. We have also now got dates for the Communion and Graduation for 6th class which we hope will now take place on August 22nd and July 2nd respectively.

I would like to thank all those pupils who took part in our creative arts day. We will post the many creations we received up on the website this week. Hope you all have an enjoyable week and we will have one final note next week.

Information & Homework June 8th-12th

Dear Parent/Guardian,

I would like to thank so many of you for sending pictures and videos to us of your Sports Day exploits. There were some fantastic pictures of the various activities and we will put some of these on the website over the coming days. If you haven’t already done so, please send them on. This week on Friday we will be having a Creative Arts day linking in with Cruinniú na nÓg which takes place on Saturday nationwide. This is a National Day of creativity for young people across the country with a whole host of free activities planned for the day. Details are all available on – line. We would again love if you could send on pictures to us of the pieces of art etc. that you get to do.

Next week we will be giving you details on the return of school rental books. There has been a lot of money spent on these over recent years and it is imperative that we get them all back. We would ask that this week the children ensure that all their books are gathered in a safe and orderly manner at home ready to be delivered back to the school over the next week or two.

Below we have laid out the school calendar for the coming year. Please note that this is provisional and may be subject to change. We don’t know yet from the government what the plans are for next year but hope to hear shortly so we can begin to make plans accordingly.

Finally, I will be in touch with the 6th class soon about end of year arrangements. One item I will ask all pupils from 6th and their parents to do is fill in the forms for secondary school titled “My Child as a Learner” and “My Personal Profile”. They are set out in their weeks work and also on the NCCA website. These are compulsory forms and form part of their Education Passport. Please ensure that they are emailed back to me at the earliest possible opportunity.

Finally, have a good week and I hope that you are all beginning to enjoy the little bit more freedom that we now have.

Dear Parent/Guardian,

I hope that you are all keeping well and enjoying the fine weather. Please find below the menu of work for pupils for the coming week. This week we are having our Virtual Sports Day and again you will find a link below directing you to a whole range of activities. We have timetabled the day for Friday, the forecast for which isn’t too bad. If Friday doesn’t suit you, you can do the activities on a different day. Parents can send photos and/or short videos of children engaging in different activities to muffschoolprincipal@gmail.com or to their own teacher’s email.

As usual, we would ask you to send in your child’s work to the appropriate teachers’ email. Have a good week and enjoy the Sports Day!
