June Newsletter

Muff NS Newsletter June 2022

First Holy Communion:   The Communion was a wonderful day for the whole school community. A huge thank you to Ms. Campbell for all the work she did with the students who shone on the day. Many thanks to Fr. Gerry for his lovely service and to all the staff members who helped out with the preparations.

I’d also like to acknowledge the Parents Association and all the parents who came out on the day to help out with the reception that took place in the hall afterwards. The feedback from families and visitors to the school was hugely positive and helped create the memorable day for all concerned.

School Uniforms:   We have gathered a large amount of school jumpers and tracksuit tops that children have taken off in the fine weather and left around. The issue we are having is that many of them have no name on them. In the last week we have gathered eight tops this way. We are asking all of you to please write the name of your child on the labels of all their clothing – with permanent marker. Uniforms cost money and if looked after, are of such a quality that can be passed on down to siblings, cousins etc.

Standardised Tests:   These tests have been carried out both this week and last week in Maths, English and Irish. They give a reasonably good indicator of how your child is progressing in these areas but they are only a snap shot in time and should be treated as such. As is Dept. of Education policy, the Sten results of these tests will be recorded in the child’s end of year reports for those pupils in 2nd, 4th and 6th.

School Tours:   Below is a list of the school tours that will be happening in the coming days and weeks

Junior/Senior Infants – Causey Farm – today.

1st/2nd – Dublin Zoo – June 16th.

3rd/4th Tanagh Adventure Centre June – June 21st

5th/6th Carlingford Adventure Centre – June 8th

Many thanks to the Parents Association for helping to subsidise the cost of these tours to the tune of €1000.

End of Year Reports:   These reports will be available for collection from the school office on Monday June 20th.  They will have book lists for the coming year in them as well. Any queries, please contact the office.

Costs:   This can be an expensive month for families. If there is any issue with costs, please contact myself in the office. All queries are dealt with in the strictest confidence.

Parents Association:   Well done to all those in the P.A. who helped organise the fantastic Family Fun Walk that took place on Lough an Leagh on Sunday. The weather stayed fair and the large turnout had a fantastic time in a lovely relaxed atmosphere completing the two walks. The spread laid out was amazing and going forward I think it is an event that the whole school community will continue to get behind.

There will be a Clothes Collection next week on Tuesday the 7th and Wednesday the 8th of June. Clothes can be left as before at the wall in the marked area. All proceeds raised will go to the P.A.

School Mural:   After the removal of some old computers, we had a large wall in our school hall that we felt gave the opportunity for an artistic display.  Ms. Swinburne and Ms. McEneaney worked on and designed an idea that would incorporate creativity, represent Muff and involve all school pupils and staff.

Over the Easter Holidays, Ms. Swinburne spent a huge amount of time putting the mural into motion devising 3 central pictures:  A horse from The Fair of Muff, the Harry Clarke window from the Church and Cross at Mass Rock.

The children then all completed colourful designs in circles that they filled in themselves.  The result of all this effort is the beautiful mural that now adorns our hall.  A huge thanks to all staff and children who helped to put it together and a special thanks to Ms. Swinburne for the massive amount of her free time she gave to it.

After School Summer Camp:   Caroline from Afterschool will be running 1 week of camp again this year. It will be a week of sports, games, arts & crafts finished off with a much-anticipated sports day on the last day!

Dates: July 4-8th…9-1pm daily.

Ages: 5-13

Cost: €65 per child – €5 discount for additional family members. Contact 087 1762628.

School Quiz:   Well done to the members of our Green School Quiz Teams who just missed out on a top three finish in the recent quiz in St Louis Carrickmacross. The participants – Harry Reilly; Kate Lennon; Aidan Curtis; Alana Gogarty; Dylan Gogarty; Cian Tully; James Farrelly & Emma Tierney, – demonstrated both great general and green knowledge on the night!

Sport/Sports Day:   It has been a very busy time sports wise in the school. Our GAA teams in the boys and girls competitions all played exceptionally well on their days out in Breffni Park and Bailieborough.  Our soccer and Gaelic leagues have wrapped up and now our 4th, 5th and 6th class pupils are involved in a basketball tournament that we hope to run off over the next two weeks.

Brendan is finishing up with his coaching for the year with our senior pupils.

Sports day takes place on Friday the 10th of June next weather permitting. We will be inviting parents down to view the fun races that morning. Junior Infants – 2nd class will be on from 9:45 – 10:15. 3rd – 6th class will then take place from 10:20 – 10:50. Parents can then leave and the pupils will continue with the rest of their sports day. We would ask that no photos be taken of the pupils participating in the races. Ms Carolan will take photos of pupils.

Community Games:   Well done to the following who won medals in the recent Community Games Art & Handwriting Competitions:  U-8 girls Art – 2nd Eva Reilly & 3rd Cora Taylor.  U-10 Boys Art – 3rd Jack Taylor.  U-14 Girls Art – 2nd Éabha Farrelly.  U-12 Girls Handwriting – 1st Cáitlín Canavan.  Éabha, Eva and Cáitlín progressed to the County Finals which took place on Saturday last in Breifne College, Cavan.   Judging is ongoing.

Graduation Mass:   The 6th class Graduation Mass will take place on Saturday June 18th at 7:30 in Muff Church.
