Laragh 2 Muff Newsletter June 2019

Communion/Confirmation: Well done to all those who completed their First Holy Communion and Confirmation over the last month. Both days went extremely well. Thank you to all the parents who helped out with the reception on the day of Communion. Once again, it added to a very memorable occasion. The Enrolment Mass for next year’s sacramental classes will take place on the 28th of September.

The Graduation Mass for our 6th class will take place on Saturday the 22nd of June at 7:30 in Muff Church.

Testing:   The standardised tests are finishing up this week. As per Department of Education guidelines parents of pupils in 2nd, 4th and 6th will receive their child’s sten score in the reports at the end of the year in both English and Maths. All scores are given to parents at next year’s Parent/Teacher meeting. These tests are a useful guide in letting us know the academic progress of the children but play only a very small part in terms of providing us with any new information.

Write A Book:   Well done to all the pupils from 3rd to 6th who participated in the Write A Book competition this year. Every pupil received a certificate and the prize winners received their medals at an awards ceremony on Tuesday night in The Cavan Crystal Hotel. The winners were: Alana Gogarty, Alana McElroy, Aoibheann Shiels, Ben McEntee, Ciarán Cooney-O’Reilly, Daniel Morris, Erin Smith, Harry Reilly, Helena Reilly, Kate Lennon, Katie Rooney, Lauren Cundelan, Mairéad McCaul, Mark Lennon, Mikey Putnam, Niall Gogarty, Orlaith Reilly, Philip Tierney & Sarah Reilly.

School Building/Play Area:   The building of the new classroom should be completed for the start of the new term. We also are hoping for the Play Area to commence building over the summer.

It has been brought to our attention that a number of people have been using the school field/yard as an area to play on after school time. Children should only be on school premises if they are at school or are attending Caroline’s after school care. We have received advice on this matter from Allianz, our school insurer, who make this point very clearly.

School Tours:   Our Infant classes had a wonderful time at Causey Farm. 1st and 2nd class are going to the Crystal Maze tomorrow while 5th and 6th are going to Dublin on Monday. Finally 3rd and 4th go to Tanagh on Wednesday. These tours have all been subsidised by the Parents Association.

End of Year Reports:   The school reports will ready and can be collected by parents at the school office by parents on Friday June 21st.

Book Lists/Book Rental:   The book lists for the pupils for next year will be sent with the reports. We will also look for the Book Rental money for 2019/20 at that time. The cost is €25.00. This scheme is constantly being added to and updated as we continue to try and minimise costs for parents. It is also imperative that all books that are part of the rental scheme are returned to the school in good order. Books that are lost will have to be replaced. So we would ask you to search at home for any school book that may have gone missing over previous months.

Green Flag:  Ms McNally and members of our Green Flag Committee received our new Green Flag at a ceremony in Dublin.  We will be raising it in school over the coming days.

Sports: Well done to Ms Quinn and our girls football team on a fantastic performance in their league.  They improved with each game and made great progress.  Very well done to the boys team who won the local 7-a-side blitz defeating St Joseph’s Kingscourt in the final.

Sport’s Day:   This will take place Friday June 21st. As is customary, parents will be able to come and watch the fun races that morning between 9:45 and 11:00. We will give more details closer to the time.

Parents Association: I would like to take this opportunity to thank the P.A. for their efforts this year.  They have been proactive and of great support to the school.  Thanks to all the committee for their efforts.  It has been greatly appreciated.
