Election of Parent Nominees for New Term of Board of Management

The four year term for the current Board of Management ends on November 30th. The Board is made up of eight members of whom two are parent nominees – a mother and father. I would like to take this opportunity to thank J.P. Canavan and Áine Gogarty for their service over the last four years. They have been members of the Board during a particularly busy time for the school and their input has been invaluable.

The Board of Management manages the school on behalf of the Patron and is accountable to the Minister. It is a voluntary role that is incredibly important. It is required and desirable to have parents voices heard on the Board. They play a central role in discussing school policy, finance, future planning etc. At all times confidentiality and transparency is critical.

We are having a meeting to elect new members to the Board on Management on Wednesday the 9th of October at 8:00 pm in the school hall. At this meeting I will ask for names to be nominated by parents for nominees to the Board – one male and one female. These parents must have children in the school. If only one parent is nominated, they are deemed to be elected. If there is more than one parent nominated, then a secret ballot is held on the night to elect the nominee.

It is absolutely critical that we have a good turnout on the night. You may not be in a position to be nominated but you may well be asked to vote in a secret ballot. It is essential that as many parent voices as possible are heard on the evening. We would also ask parents to consider allowing their name to go forward for nomination on the night for the next four year term. I look forward to seeing as many of you as possible on Wednesday week in the school.

Yours sincerely,

Aonghus Byrne
