Digital Strategy Policy
Laragh 2 Muff NS
Our Digital Learning Plan
Introduction
This draft document is a statement of current practices in the use of digital technologies for teaching, learning and assessment in Laragh 2 Muff National School. This document will identify areas where practice can be further enhanced and developed to embed digital technologies into all areas of school activity.
School Details:
Laragh 2 Muff NS is a 5-teacher school in Kingscourt Co. Cavan. The school also includes two learning support teachers and an SNA. There are currently 143 pupils enrolled in the school. As part of the Department of Education and Skills Digital Strategy for Schools 2015-2020, Enhancing Teaching, Learning and Assessment, schools are expected to prepare and implement a Digital Learning Plan (formally e-learning plan) as part of the Whole School Plan. The Digital Learning Planning Guidelines (DL Planning Guidelines) provide guidance on how the DL Framework can support the creation of a Digital Learning Plan (DL).
School Vision:
At Laragh 2 Muff NS, we believe that digital technologies are invaluable tools for learning and will help our pupils become confident learners by having the skills and capabilities to use digital technology in all aspects of their school life.
Our school digital learning vision is guided by the following objectives:
- That students will leave our school as confident, creative and productive users of new technologies and understand the impact of those technologies on society.
- The school will seek to integrate digital technologies further into the whole curriculum by embedding them into learning, teaching and assessment practices.
Brief account of the use of digital technologies in the school to date:
The main digital technologies used in the school are Interactive White Boards (IWB) and Interactive TVs. These are situated in the 5 main classrooms and are used daily to support teaching and learning of all subject areas. The boards are used as a general writing area and an interactive tool which pupils have direct access to. Pupils use the applications to create their own work e.g. maths graphs, tables etc. and conduct research. They are also used to store previous lessons.
A set of iPads is available for class usage. These are mainly used in small group settings or in pairs. There are several applications on the iPads that are used to support teaching of curriculum subjects. The iPads are also used in standalone IT lessons.
The Learning Support rooms use laptops, iPads and software to facilitate various learning styles and abilities.
School Website – this acts as a direct link between the school and parents. School events, policies, achievements and general school information are available here. The website is regularly updated and includes photos of children’s work.
Aladdin – this secure system holds all personal data and assessment results. It is accessed daily by each teacher to record the attendance for the day.
These are a summary of our strengths with regards digital learning
- Use of interactive boards in a whole-class setting, particularly the following subject areas; Gaeilge (Bua na Cainte, Abair Liom, Bun go Barr), Maths (Planet Maths, Apex) and SESE (Askaboutireland.com, DK find out).
- Use of iPads in small groups\pair work.
- Storage of personal data and standardised assessment results through Aladdin.
- School website – used to display pupils work, as a communication link with parents as well as policies and school information.
This is what we are going to focus on to improve our digital learning practice further
Synchronising IWB and iPads.
- Increasing the number of iPads and sourcing iPad applications suitable to whole-class teaching.
- Increase focus on pupil’s individual use of digital technology to create and explore.
The dimensions and domains from the Digital Learning Framework being selected
- Teaching and learning dimension – domain 1 Learner outcomes.
- Leadership and Management dimension – domain 2 Managing the organisation.
The standards and statements from the Digital Learning Framework being selected

On the next page we have recorded:
- The targets for improvement we have set
- The actions we will implement to achieve these
- Who is responsible for implementing, monitoring and reviewing our improvement plan
- How we will measure progress and check outcomes (criteria for success)
As we implement our improvement plan we will record:
- The progress made, and adjustments made, and when
- Achievement of targets (original and modified), and when
